Answers:
Could it be staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome? This is a bacterial infection, not a virus. Read just about it at:

I tried to find scalding virus on line and found nil specific. I am a R.N. who worked in a HIV clinic and I enjoy never heard of this virus. It would be biddable for your daughters friend to ask the doctor specific questions of what he is referring to, and to find out if it is contagious. Doctors are sometimes flawless at lingo type diagnosis in which the forgiving doesn't know anymore than they did after seeing him. Dr's should speak in Layman's language when explaining cause and effect of diseases.
Sounds similar to Scalded Skin Syndrome (SSS), which is caused by strains of Staphylococcus aureus which carry a gene for the exfoliantin toxin. Exfoliantin is produced at the infection site and travels to distant sites on the body via the bloodstream. It causes the top lode of the skin to separate and peel bad in sheets. Normally it will thieve 7-10 days for the skin to return to normal and antibiotics psychiatric therapy can be used, although since it's S. aureus strain, there are copious highly resistant strains. To prevent the spread, use biddable hygiene and provide aseptic cleansing of the lesions.
And yes, this is a bacterial infection, not a virus.
