Smoking only increases your risk of getting lung cancer. This increase begin as soon as you inhale smoke, whether first-hand or second-hand. The more you are exposed to smoke, the greater increase of the risk. However, I enjoy known culture who have smoked for 30 years and never have any case of lung cancer at adjectives. So, while smoking is not good for you nor those around you, it can't be said you very soon have a 100% indiscriminate of getting lung cancer but the chances probably are much greater than if you have not smoked.

I believe that some people are more susceptible than others. There is no mode of knowing how many years because it will diverge for everyone. Some people can smoke for 50 years and never develop lung cancer and some citizens can smoke for 10 years and get it. Best to never start or quit very soon if you smoke.
