Mother age 92 have eczema and Dr. give zantac which give her diarrhea can she lift pepto bismol beside zantac?

She has have eczema for over 2 yrs. It will get better afterwards will reoccur. This last time the Dr. said she might hold too much acid and that be causing the eczema so they give her zantac then changed it to pepcid when the diarrhea started. But the money hasn't helped. She have tried all the usual treatments..antihistamine, cotton clothes, adjectives kinds of ointment, lotions, creams. She has be to dermatolgist, allergy dr. and general practioner. It seem the antiacid does help but requirement some help next to the diarrhea. She takes blood pressure meds, lithium, explicitly all the meds she take except for the antihistimine for eczema.

Answers:
She can take Pepto-bismol when needed, but it would be better to prevent the diarrhea.Ask the Doctor if she can try Nexium or Over the counter Gaviscon.

My Mom have high blood pressure and take Nexium without complications, I clutch Nexium and use Gaviscon(if I eat something that cause a lot of acid) and hold no complications.

At your Mothers advanced age; the likely source of her eczema is blood circulatory problems, which within my opinion make the antihistamines useless.

Antihistamines aren't recommended when you take blood pressure medication,so I am curious which one the Doctor have her taking.
No. Call the doctor for a different medication that won't give her diarrhea. If side effects are bothersome, afterwards it is time for a new medication. I am glad it seem to help, but diarrhea can be uncertain and deadly to a 92 yr. elderly. Do not add any medication to your grandmother's regimen without conversation to her doctor. It is important to know what medicine interact with what earlier you go tally anything to her med list. Pharmacists are also a apt resource.
