If someone have be referred to a specialist contained by good opinion to a liver minor, how long should he loaf?

to be seen?
He have bowel cancer- operated successfully but after they discovered liver secondary. severe complications set contained by due to mrsa and c-diff, severely weakened him and he have to have a colostomy! he have one dose of chemo( the idea be to chemo, then operate on the liver tumours), however he react badly to chemo and nearly died. Dr will not do more chemo, as he say it will kill him. He be referred before xmas but still no appointment- is this adequate? the cancer will still be growing! An mri early contained by January showed that the liver growth had grown slightly, but he is presently complaining of pains in the lower chest region- could it be related? what should be done?

Answer:
The 2 week hang about scheme is for GP referral and not consultant to consultant referral. It is feasible that his case will hold been discussed both at the colorectal MDT and after the hepatobiliary MDT. An MDT is a multi disciplinary meeting, where on earth by the physicians, surgeons, oncologists, histopathologists, radiologists and specialist nurses attend to make squad decisions on the patients precision.

It is difficult to make any comment on the MRI showing progressing liver lesion, as the timescale is important. When be the primary resected, where from within the colon, or rectum, and when was the closing MRI?

I would contact the secretary of the oncologist in charge of his watchfulness, and find out who he was referred to contained by the liver team. Either ask the secretary or speak to the secretary of the liver surgeon, who will be capable of ensure that he hasn't fallen into a black hole and is one planned to be seen. Failing that, the specialist colorectal nurse he presumably saw for his primary should be capable of track the referral to ensure it has reach the team.

In my feelings, standard procedure here is that we would discuss the patient at the MDT prior to seeing him contained by clinic to discuss the options. It would predictable be them who have ordered the MRI as it is a better prevailing conditions to see if there are any other liver lesion not picked up on CT scanning. With the results of that next discussed at the MDT again, he would then of course be overdue an appointment with any the liver team or oncologist to explain the results from that crowd.

If the liver is affected by metastasis of the colon cancer, next he has reach Stage IV: (Cancer that has spread to other organs).
Metastasis is the movement or spreading of cancer cell from one organ or tissue to another. Cancer cells usually spread through the bloodstream or the lymph system. However, once the cancer have spread beyond the bowel, chemotherapy is used.
Consult your doctor.
