I spent some time today working next to granite. Am I at risk for silicosis from such short residence exposure?
This was purely a one time thing and I hold had minimal exposure to silica earlier. Also I am in my teen and I did this outside. I didn't smell it too much any
Answer:
Working with granite is not the problem, the silica must be crystalline and airborne. Were you grinding it in need respiratory protection, or water spray?
Even so a single exposure will not dispense you silicosis.
I've been working next to granite for 27 years and I'm still alive. If you inhale the dust from cutting it dry you might hold some in your lungs. Cement block is fruitless also. If it was newly for a short time I believe you'll be just fine. You know you inhaled abundantly of dust when you hack the stuff up out of your lungs and when you blow your nose and the color of your snot match the stone you were working near. No kidding, be there.
