Is it true that cats spread a brain virus???

I once read that cats spread a brain virus and it is estimated that up to 2/3 of the world's population may be infected. The article was from USA Today (I think). Anyone own any additional information in the order of the truth behind this? How do you know if you are infected, and what can you do almost it?

Answer:
While it is true that cats and dogs can carry virus and can transmit them to human (rabies is actually a virus); I can not find any evidence or info on a specific "brain" virus that they spread.

There is a type of parasitic infection that you can take from cats...and it is estimated that 60% of the US population may have or may be at lofty risk for this.

It is called Toxoplasmosis (1)

If that is to say true, I'm screwed. I have 4 cats.
