Answers: You could be an asymptomatic carrier of abundantly of diseases and/or parasite infestations which stay dormant over the years, and when something goes wrong near the patients immune system all of a sudden break out. Please memo: I wrote "Could". It is just a standard precaution.
I think it's because you could own contacted something that is endemic here that would be harmful if given to the receiver. I am thinking Malaria. The blood center should be able to pass you details on this. Call them back. There are diseases you could own caught, that you may not even know that you have! Better to not tender that to a sick person! Did you ask them if here was a time stricture??
Did they know it was 7 years ago? If they did its strange because usually you singular have to keep on 3 years after travelling to central america (or anywhere near is malaria). Although guidelines change it could be more years in a minute you should check because you'll probably be able to donate eventually.
