Anemia: Why won't my body store Iron?

I suffer from chronic anemia and have be taking Iron supplements over the past 6 months. Recently blood tests hold come back to show that my hemoglobin, red blood cell count are still falling although only slightly. I also have undetectable ferritin levels so it seems as though my body is not competent to store iron well. My Doctor mentioned the possibility of Thalassemia a sort of genetic anemia and advised me to up my dosage of Iron and come
surrounded by for blood tests every 12 weeks.
Any idea why my body won't store iron at adjectives? Could I have some condition causing this?

Any direction would be great!

Answer:    I'm wondering why your doctor didn't tell you why you aren't able to store iron, but here may be something wrong with your kidneys... ask your doctor for a specific reason..
