How long to lurk for a pathology report?
My son is getting ready for a liver resection to remove a tumour believed to be a metastatic Wilms' Tumour. The one question his oncologist did not answer for us is how long after the surgery will we know what exactly it is?
I can't remember how long we waited to hear the ingenious diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago but it seemed like we waited forever.
Answers:
In most countries the pathology report is completed within 1 to 2 days. I hear that in America it take longer. Ask your doctor.
In my experience, they usually speak about you it will be 1-2 weeks, but they actually have the results in a few of days.
I suggest you phone the office 3-4 days after surgery. Just be polite and ask if the results are in. If they aren't, tell them you plan on calling stern once a day to get an update. They usually don't have a problem beside that if you are polite about it.
Good luck.
Hello JS:
I know it seem like forever especially when your waiting to hear
about your child. But it can take 36 hours to find the report.
and it feels like a month. If it has a stat report than it usually take
about 12 to 24 hours.
Find something to keep busy and the time will pass quicker. Source(s): retired nurse and cancer survivor.
A week to ten days is fairly normal unless there is a "stat" command on it.
